The design
Basalt Cloister is the forest after the walkers have gone home: still, damp and faintly enchanted. Ancient branches twist overhead like the ribs of a vaulted roof, each one shaggy with hanging moss and clinging ferns. Between them, layer upon layer of trees fade into fog, so the eye travels deeper the longer you look. There is no trail and no figure, only atmosphere, which gives the scene a calm, contemplative weight. It is a mural for people who find comfort in low light and long silences.
Which rooms would this wallpaper complement beautifully?
In a Bedroom, the foggy, low-lit woodland behind the headboard creates a cocooning backdrop that helps the room slow down at night.
In a Bathroom, the moss-hung branches and misty depth turn the wall beside a bath or shower into a forest-spa retreat.
One great serpentine limb anchors the composition, sweeping from the upper left toward the right where it kinks sharply before reaching into the mist, while dense thickets close in at both edges and leave a softer, brighter corridor that pulls the gaze inward. From across the room it reads as bold tracery against a veil of haze, almost like an etching; at arm's length the detail sharpens into individual leaves, drooping strands of moss and the furrowed bark of the old trunks. Lighting within the scene is low and diffuse, so contrast stays gentle: daylight lifts the fog and reveals more of the background trees, whereas a single evening lamp deepens the foreground shapes until the room feels ringed by woodland. The wide format and receding layers push the back wall visually outward, lending a compact room a sense of distance it does not physically have. Ground it with raw linen, a stone basin, walnut or oiled oak, brushed brass and a few trailing houseplants that echo the hanging moss. Place it on the wall facing the door, or behind a bed or bath, so it is the first thing you see, and keep lighting low and directional to amplify the depth. Every mural is produced to your exact wall dimensions, so the great curving branch can be centred precisely where you want it.
