The design
Thin Place takes its name from the Celtic idea of spots where the boundary between this world and another wears almost transparent, and it imagines one hidden deep in an old wood. A worn road of cobbles leads beneath twisting boughs to the remains of a gateway, half swallowed by ivy and hanging vines. Beyond it lies nothing but light and drifting fog, which is exactly the point: the destination is left to the imagination. Perched birds, ferns and a scattering of toadstools supply fairytale detail without tipping into anything sinister. It is escapism in its most literal form, a doorway opening onto your wall.
Which rooms would this wallpaper complement beautifully?
In a Hallway, the receding cobbled path makes a short corridor feel as though it carries on into the forest.
In a Kids Room, the ruined arch, perched birds and toadstools set the stage for fairytale adventures and imaginative play.
The composition follows a classic one-point perspective: the cobbled road narrows from the bottom edge toward the luminous opening of the arch, while two massive trunks and a low-slung bough form a natural frame that holds the eye in the centre. Across a room the image reads as a simple, powerful tunnel of light; up close it fills with incident, from the chipped edges of each stone block and the knotted roots to the ivy tendrils, the smaller window in the ruin and the birds perched along its crown. Light pours from the far side of the gateway and fades into shadow at the margins, giving the mural its own built-in vignette, so daylight keeps the mist airy while evening lamplight makes the bright centre seem to glow against a darkened frame. That receding path is a genuine space-maker, visually lengthening a short corridor or pushing back the end wall of a compact room. Rough stone, reclaimed wood, aged brass hardware, sheepskin, chunky wool rugs and potted ferns carry the woodland feeling out into the room. Centre the archway on an end wall or opposite a doorway so the path lines up with your approach, and keep furniture low in front so nothing interrupts the view. Because each mural is made to your exact measurements, the vanishing point can sit at eye height for the most convincing effect.
