Two great trunks frame the scene like stage curtains, a flowering bough arches across the top, and the eye is pulled straight down a corridor of twisting trees into a hazy, light-filled clearing at the centre. From across the room it reads as a soft, glowing tunnel of forest anchored by strong shapes at each side; up close, the storytelling takes over, from the latch and hanging bell on the toadstool house to the rungs of a tiny ladder, a ladybird resting on a cap and fiddlehead curls springing from the moss. Shafts of diffused light already slant through the leaves in the artwork, so daylight from a window heightens the sense of glow, while evening lamps settle the shadows and let the bright centre shine like a lantern. That strong central perspective pushes the back of the wall away, making a compact room feel deeper, while the overhanging branches create a cosy, sheltered frame along the ceiling line.
