One great serpentine limb anchors the composition, sweeping from the upper left toward the right where it kinks sharply before reaching into the mist, while dense thickets close in at both edges and leave a softer, brighter corridor that pulls the gaze inward. From across the room it reads as bold tracery against a veil of haze, almost like an etching; at arm's length the detail sharpens into individual leaves, drooping strands of moss and the furrowed bark of the old trunks. Lighting within the scene is low and diffuse, so contrast stays gentle: daylight lifts the fog and reveals more of the background trees, whereas a single evening lamp deepens the foreground shapes until the room feels ringed by woodland.
