Two layers do the work here: a field of horizontal boards lays down a steady architectural base, and over it the crosses fall in an irregular, confetti-like spread, varied in size and tilt, so the movement comes from the marks while the calm comes from the planks. At a distance the wall reads as a lively, evenly sprinkled texture with faint horizontal banding; step in and the board seams, round knots, brushed-out grain and the dry, tapered ends of each pen stroke come into view.
