Belladonna, grijs

The composition rests on strict mirror-image symmetry, with ornate scrolls rising into tall, lantern-shaped cartouches that each hold a skull, crowned by diamond finials and stitched together by fine dotted lines. At room distance it reads as stately, formal ornament with a strong vertical cadence; closer in, the skulls come into focus along with a hand-brushed, mottled finish that gives the surface the feel of aged plaster. Because the artwork works in tone rather than bold contrast, it shifts gently through the day, crisp and graphic in morning light, softer and almost velvety by evening as the scrolls catch lamplight and the recesses sink into shadow. Its upward-climbing cartouches draw the eye toward the ceiling, adding height to a compact washroom or a low corridor without crowding it. Style it with antique brass taps, a honed stone basin, velvet, ebonised wood, smoked glass and a gilt-framed mirror for full gothic glamour. Hang it on the wall facing the vanity for a jewel-box effect, or along one hallway wall lit by a pair of sconces. Each mural is produced to your exact measurements, so the cartouches align cleanly from floor to cornice.
